How to Choose a Dentist

Content Review Date: November 2003

Description

One of the most important steps to protect your dental health is finding a dentist that you feel comfortable with.

Choosing a Dentist:

  • Ask your friends, relatives, neighbours, family doctor and co-workers who they see.
  • Check the Yellow Pages in the telephone book for a dentist located in your area.

Questions to Ask:

  • Does the dentist see children?
  • How does the dentist deal with difficult children?
  • Are you able to make an appointment at a convenient time? (Evenings and weekends if needed?)
  • What arrangements are available for emergency services?
  • Is the dentist willing to work out payment plans? (example, monthly payments)
  • Does the dentist or staff speak the language you need? (Example French, Chinese, etc.)
